There are trail names earned on places like the Appalachian Trail. Then there are highway names - bestowed by the motorists who give hitchhikers rides. As the story goes, it was dusk, and a young man was making his way to Idaho to spend quality time with his father. Grab your mashmallows, graham crackers, and a blanket. Pull up a camp chair, because from this day forward, the Hayden's highway name is Campfire. Why? Because wherever he went, people couldn't help but gather to hear him tell, one more story. When I set out to field-test my new Zoom H2 Essential Multi-Mic Handy Recorder (which I can't recommend highly enough), I assumed I was simply going to capture some random audio. Apparently, God had other plans. While riding public transportation from Glenwood Springs to Eagle, Colorado, a ray of sunshine entered my life by the name of Dan. I'll cut to the chase: the world is a better place because of Dan. We need more people like him. Was our meeting a sacred contract, divine destiny, or completely random? It's likely I'll never know.
